Have you been hearing a lot of news about Lakshadweep lately? India's Lakshadweep is in the spotlight following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emphasis to boost domestic tourism attractions such as this Union Territory (UT). But to sell it right, you would need all the information about this trending destination. You can't just take your luggage and head to Lakshadweep, unlike many other tourist destinations in the nation. In addition to additional planning, you also require permission.
Here’s how you can go about it.
Lakshadweep, the smallest Union Territory of India, it is an archipelago of 36 islands covering 32 square kilometers. There are twelve atolls, three reefs, five submerged banks, and ten inhabited islands that make up this union territory with only one district. The islands cover an area of 32 square kilometers in total.
The Lakshadweep Islands can only access telecommunication services from BSNL and Airtel. BSNL provides connectivity to all 10 inhabited islands whereas Airtel provides connectivity to Kavaratti and Agatti islands.
Everyone except for Lakshadweep residents should get a permit to travel to the coral islands. Here is a step-by-step guide for you to apply for your permit. Tourists can apply for the permit from here.
You will receive an email with the permit after submitting the necessary paperwork. Your country and the length of time you plan to spend on the island will determine the permit costs. After receiving the permit, be careful to reserve your lodging and tickets as soon as possible.
The permit is generally valid for 30 days.
Please note: Everyone except the UT’s residents will have to get the permit first even if you are an Indian citizen.
