Know the Destination

Lakshadweep, the smallest Union Territory of India, it is an archipelago of 36 islands covering 32 square kilometers. There are twelve atolls, three reefs, five submerged banks, and ten inhabited islands that make up this union territory with only one district. The islands cover an area of 32 square kilometers in total.

Telecommunication Services

The Lakshadweep Islands can only access telecommunication services from BSNL and Airtel. BSNL provides connectivity to all 10 inhabited islands whereas Airtel provides connectivity to Kavaratti and Agatti islands.

Who should take the permit to visit Lakshadweep?

Everyone except for Lakshadweep residents should get a permit to travel to the coral islands. Here is a step-by-step guide for you to apply for your permit. Tourists can apply for the permit from here.

Documents needed for the permit:

  • - Passport size photo.
  • - Photocopy of a valid ID proof (Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Pan Card, etc.)
  • - Proof of travel (flight tickets or boat reservations)
  • - Booking confirmation from the place of accommodation (hotel or resort)

You will receive an email with the permit after submitting the necessary paperwork. Your country and the length of time you plan to spend on the island will determine the permit costs. After receiving the permit, be careful to reserve your lodging and tickets as soon as possible. The permit is generally valid for 30 days.

Please note: Everyone except the UT’s residents will have to get the permit first even if you are an Indian citizen.
